Tales from the Clinic

As another chapter in the story of TAVNS (Transcutaneous Auricular Vagal Nerve Stimulation) in the clinic, this patient seems to have the opposite effect from the previous patient.  Obviously, there is a lot of “noise” in the system, but he seems to have lower stress levels during treatment when TaVNS is added.  I have yet to figure out how and why people respond differently.  We do know that migraineurs are hyper sensitive to stimuli.  For better or worse they may respond more dramatically to TAVNS.

This patient is a migraineur who has had decisive positive results with acupuncture.  His migraine frequency has decreased dramatically, though he still has a sense of muzziness in his head that has not abated.

Notice how the treatments on 4/3/2017, 4/6/2017, 11/6/2017, and 12/21/2017 all show reduced stress levels as measured by LF/HF.  Granted, it’s not super dramatic, but it appears to offer some benefit, unlike the patient in the previous post.
